Origin: IE [Indo-European]X [probably] [326] *h₁(e)r- `arise'
Etymology: With the exception of ἐρέας all forms can be explained from *ἔρος n., which with ἔρνος `sprout' may belong to ὄρνυμι. So probably to be corrected to ἔρεα. A masc. *ἐρής would be difficult, in spite of Bechtel Dial. 1, 205. To ὄρνυμι, where one expects *h₃r- however.
